This page describes how the website handles personal information, including the optional email sign-up for Chapter 1 and the optional analytics service.

Optional analytics

We use Google Analytics only if you select “Accept analytics” in the notice shown on this website. It is off by default. If you select “No thanks”, Google Analytics is not loaded.

If you accept, Google Analytics collects information about use of the website, such as pages viewed, technical browser and device information, approximate location and the time of a visit. We use this information in aggregated form to understand which pages are useful and to improve the website. We do not use Google Analytics for advertising, remarketing or personalised advertising.

Your choice is stored in your browser so the website can remember it. If your browser blocks this storage, the choice applies to the current page and you may be asked again on your next visit. Use Analytics settings here or at the foot of any page to change it. If you withdraw consent, future Analytics collection stops and the Analytics cookies set by this website are removed. Google explains how it handles information in its Privacy Policy.

Email updates

If you enter your email address in the free Chapter 1 form, we use it to send you a link to the illustrated Chapter 1 PDF and occasional news about the book, including when it is published. We use MailerLite to process your address and send these emails on our behalf. We do not sell your address or share it with other organisations for their own marketing.

Your email address is held by MailerLite, the service we use to send these emails. MailerLite processes it on our behalf and stores its data in the European Union. When you sign up, MailerLite also records the date and time and the IP address used, as a record of your consent. Our emails record whether they are opened and which links are clicked, so that we can see whether they are useful.

We send these emails with your consent. Every email has an unsubscribe link, and you can also ask to be removed by writing to alasdair@the4at.com. When you unsubscribe, we stop emailing you. MailerLite keeps the address on a suppression list so that it is not emailed again by mistake; ask us if you would like it deleted completely. MailerLite explains how it handles information in its Privacy Policy.

Website hosting and contact

The website has no account system or advertising. It is hosted by GitHub Pages. GitHub processes technical information, including IP addresses and request details, to serve and protect the website, even when optional analytics is off. See GitHub's Privacy Statement.

If you email us, we receive your email address and the information you include, and use these to respond to your enquiry.
